PSNI - Police Service of Northern
Ireland
What is the Police Service
of Northern Ireland?
As a result of the agreement reached in Belfast on
the 10th April 1998, the Independent Commission on Policing
in Northern Ireland was established, thus doing away with the
old Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC). Now officers from the Republic
are free to join the PSNI and work side by side with officers
from the Ulster province to create a broader branch of service
