PUXLEY MANOR& DUNBOY CASTLE
Casteltownberehave, Beara Peninsula, County Cork

Puxley Manor
Puxley Manor

Puxley Manor is on the same estate as Dunboy Castle and located on a beautiful inlet from the sea on the Beara Peninsula near Castletownberehaven

This one time grand estate was in use until the 1920's when it was burned out by local IRA who believed that the owners were storing weapons for the opposition.

Visitors will pass by the original gatehouse (photo below right) and through a gate before coming to the manor. Visitors are asked to keep the gate closed as there are horses and cattle that share the land around the estate.
Dunboy Castle (photo below) is at the end of the long private drive, laying in complete ruins. Little is known about this castle, but it has been around since about the 14th century and was the home of the local clan, O'Sullivan Bear.

Recently the Irish Archeaological Service performed a marine "dig" in the old quayside. Quite a few interesting artifacts were recovered.
