Ceide
Fields, Ballycastle, Co Mayo
Ceidi Fields is Europe's larges Stone Age land enclosure.
It covers over 4 square miles along the north coast of
Mayo. his site was once enclosed but walls to make fields
suitable for crops such as wheat and barley, and for grazing
cattle.
Rockfleet
Castle, aka Carrigahowey Castle, Mulranny, Co Mayo
The castle was beseiged by troops sent from Galway in
1574 but the invaders were turned back by pirate queen
Grace O'Malley. After the death of her second husband,
Richard Burke, in 1583, Grace retired to this castle.
It was said that she brought with her "all herown followers
and 1000 head of cows and mares."
Westport
House, Westport, Co Mayo
Westport House was designed in 1732 by Richard Castle
and completed by James Wyatt in 1778. This house stands
on a former site of the an O'Malley castle.
