The "Dvblinia" (Dublinia) exhibit
was founded by the Medieval Trust in Dublin
in 1993. Housed in Synod Hall beside Christchurch
Cathedral, this exhibit covers the Medieval
period in Dublin's history, from the time
the Norman's came in 1169 to the closure of
the monasteries in the 1540s. Synod Hall and
the enclosed foot bridge that connects to
Christchurch date back ot the 1870s.
This tour begins with an audio walking tour.
Upon entering you are given a tape player
and headset that will take you through the
basement of Synod Hall where a detailed historical
3D and life size displays have been recreated
(photos below). These scenes depict major
scenes in Dublin's history from the coming
of Strongbow and the Norman's, to clan uprisings,
to the Black Plague in Dublin and more.
At the completion of this portion of the
tour the players are handed in at an upstairs
desk and visitors are free to explore the
museum rooms where artifacts are on display
from excavations that have taken place in
the city over the years. There is also a large
scale model of what Dubln looked like around
1500.
Hungry visitors can take advantage of the
museum cafe on this floor.
