Markree Castle is a mid-17th century castle amd has been in the Cooper family for more than 350 years, the only castle in Ireland owned by direct descendants. A large stained glass window depicts the Cooper family tree. The castle sits in the middle of a large private estate surrounded by manicured gardens mature trees and a private lake. All rooms are en suite and decorated to reflect an individual personality. This is one of the few historic houses in Ireland with a lift (reserved for those with physical handicaps only please) Traditional cooking is available in their restaurant, lounge for guests. Horseback riding is also available on site. Golf at nearby courses. This castle has a wonderful balance of modern amenities and old world charm. Guests are made to feel like a member of the gentry here.
