REVIEW
The original Belleek Castle dates back to
the 14th century and can be viewed by appointment
as part of the castle museum. Adjacent to the museum
is the 16th century armory building where you can
view and even handle some of the most magnificent
weaponry of the period. Walk through the "Tunnel
of Time" to see some of the more unusual artifacts,
including teeth from a woolly mammoth to other ancient
fossils. This is a small castle with only 15 rooms
but each has been tastefully decorated to give guests
a sense of the current castle, which dates back to
te 19th century with its big windows and large rooms.
The estate sits on 1000 acres of private lands against
the River Moy. There is a guest bar on site as well
as sporting activities, including golf, fishing, tennis,
horse riding and even surfing nearby in the bay.
GUEST COMMENTS
Of all the accommodations and hosts we encountered
in Ireland, Belleek Castle was by far the best value
for our money. Marshall and Jackie stand out among
a number of kind hosts as exemplary representatives
of the welcoming feeling for which Ireland is so renowned.
