REVIEW
Ashford Castle dates back to the late 13th
century as a stronghold for the de Burgo's, an Anglo-Norman
family. The original keep has been restored and expanded
repeatedly through history. Most notably were the
restorations overseen by Lord Ardilaun, Sir Arthur
Guinness, who used the castle as a country home. Today
the castle has been meticulously restored to become
one of Ireland's most outstanding properties. The
estate encompasses 350 acres and sits on the banks
of Lough Corrib, Ireland's largest lake. All rooms
are en suite and have been decorated to the highest
standards. The castle has become more than a hotel.
It's a complete resort that includes not just rooms,
restaurant and bar, but also complete leisure facilities,
golf, fishing, hunting, archery and even falconry.
This is not just any castle hotel. This is the accommodation
of choice for dignitaries and the elite.
