REVIEW
Chief O'Neill's Hotel is probably one of
Ireland's most unique and creative hotels. This hotel
was designed in a style inspired by the original Chief
O'Neill who was Chicago's Chief of Police at the turn
of the last century. He collected traditional Irish
music and was an avid afficianado of the form. Originally
from south Cork, the Chief left Ireland at the tender
age of 17 to make his way in the world. Today Chief
O'Neill's Hotel is a tribute to his love of his country's
music. This is a true boutique hotel in the city center
of Dublin and was the inspiration for the restoration
of the Smithfield Village area of the city, the new
cultural center adjacent to Temple Bar. Rooms include
CD hifi systems, multi-channel satellite TV, ISDN
lines in each of its 73 rooms, rooftop gardens attached
to the penthouse suites. The hotel also boasts a classy
cafe and bar that is decorated the same as the rest
of the hotel, in bold bright colors, furniture with
bold yet simple lines, and offers live traditional
music most nights during the summer. The most striking
feature at the hotel is the Chimney in which guests
can take the lift to the top floor and view the city
360 degrees. There is a traditional music center also
onsite. If you love traditional Irish music this is
the perfect place to stay.
