The Man of Aran Cottage is a fine example of a traditional
Irish thatch cottage that overlooks the sea at Kilmurvey on
Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. The cottage was purpose
built by writer and director Robert J. Flaherty for the movie
"The Man of Aran" that was released in 1934. While
the cottage has seen a number of owners over the years, it still
retains many of its original features that were made for the
film, and are painstakingly retained as the house becomes part
of Ireland's history.
Bedrooms within the cottage are cozy with traditional features,
but also caters to modern needs. There are sea views and island
views from all aspects. Joe's passion is organic farming and
maintains a large plot behind the cottage that supplies the
house with fresh, healthy vegetables. Maura is a trained chef.
It's no surprise that the cottage operates as a restaurant as
well.
It's easy to see why this cottage has been guide recommended
when you step through the door. A stay here will enhance anyone's
holiday in Ireland.
