REVIEW
Carrigeen Castle is a historical building
dating back to the 1600s when it was originally a
prison. Today the castle is completely modernized
but still exhibits many of the old characteristics.
Views of the Galtee Mountains and surrounding hillsides
from all rooms. Many rooms en suite. Private on site
parking. Carrigeen Castle is one of Ireland's more unusual
accommodations. It dates back to penal days as the
local prison for the town of Cahir. There were sections
for both men and women. The guard house is also attached
and serves as the main entrance. Today the house has
been beautifully restored and is filled with antiques
and family memorabilia. Views from the rooms are outstanding
as the location of the castle is on a cliff overlooking
the town of Cahir. As a listed building and part of
the Heritage Trail, a visit to the B&B will prove
most memorable.
